If you missed the last Total Lunar Eclipse on Feb 20, 2008, you can see it again on Dec 21, 2010. From 0 to 3 lunar eclipses (partial or total) occur each year. The last time 3 total lunar eclipses occurred in a year was in 1982. On average, partial eclipses slightly outnumber total eclipses by 7 to 6.

California quail's nest is a shallow hollow or scrape in the ground lined with grass. The chicks leave the nest shortly after birth & start learning to fly in ~10 days. They stay on the ground for about a month - then roost in trees with the rest of the flock. The female usually has one brood a year.

Participating in nature / outdoors events at our beautiful parks & trails is a refreshing way to spend a few hours or the better part of a day - invigorating our body, mind & spirit! But, it isn't easy to find these events, parks or others with similar interests to enjoy them with! That's what led to the creation of this unique community resource / portal for outdoors & nature.
Did
you know - there
are many interesting group events conducted
by our county Park Districts and a variety of other
groups / organizations? However, these events and great places have unintentionally remained a best kept secret! Why? Because it has been a challenge to find and search through several websites, scanning long lists (sometimes pdf files) of events - trying to simply find a park or an event that matched our availability and preferences! (e.g. a moderate hike of less than 5 miles next Saturday, or a park in the South Bay with waterfalls & wildflowers.) It was especially hard for most
of us with limited time to
find and enjoy these fun, interesting events. We certainly needed
a more convenient solution!
Given the high quality of the events and the hours of fun, fitness & friendship they provide, it is surprising that most events are free (though a few require pre-registration and modest fees.) Thus, with just a moderate amount of fitness and a bit of curiosity / sense of adventure, we can start enjoying our local & regional parks, open space preserves and wilderness areas. These outdoors group events are one of the greatest ways to get refreshed, de-stressed, and energized (while burning calories!) And it's more fun discovering / enjoying / appreciating the diverse flora & fauna in the company of old & new friends. From colorful seasonal wildflowers to towering old Redwoods - from the diminutive Newts to a herd of 700-1000 pound Tule Elk - from the common but interesting Mallard ducks to migratory and other rarer birdlife! Not to forget the great vistas & settings that reflect the changing beauty of the seasons - and the varying glow & colors of our nearest star and our celestial companion! Also check out: |
