Nature Trivia & Tips

Most ducks shed their body feathers twice each year. Nearly all drakes (the males) lose their colorful plumage after mating, and for a few weeks resemble females! This hen-like appearance is called the eclipse plumage.

Nature Trivia & Tips

The bison sustained a way of life and independence for the Native Americans. From 40 million in 1800, widespread slaughter led to 0 wild bison in the US in 1883! Many denounced the slaughter; few did anything to stop it. A small group of conservationists managed to save a few hundred - saving them from extinction - though its status is still endangered.    About Registrations

Why the registrations / introductions?   Here are some tips & guidelines:

If you were to attend one of the events, you would, of course, introduce yourself to others to get the conversation going. In that same spirit, we ask you to introduce yourself to the other members - so that when you are making plans to attend an event or come across each other at an event, you would have an established connection!

As you would have discovered by now, several sections of the site are accessible to everyone - even without registering. However, if you are interested in these events/topics and wish to get in touch with others who share similar interests (and generate more enthusiasm for these interesting events!), sign-up today in just a few clicks.

You can share your questions, tips, and plans for attending these events - and help build a useful & fun resource for everyone! You'll be surprised at what a little initiative can do (taking some small steps/actions) to ACTIVATE / invigorate your nature/outdoors activities!

Active-Days

When you truly enjoy something (or you're trying something you're really interested in), it's more fun doing it with others who enjoy & appreciate it as well.  Whether you find an activity partner or friend for a few hours, months or years, that's a risk you are taking voluntarily!

As you can imagine, it is important for everyone to feel confident that they are interacting with REAL people (not just "online personas"/"avatars" or "spammers"/"trolls"!)  Thus please provide your real information and provide a proper introduction - something that goes beyond your name, location and a general interest in hiking etc. Remember, these can only be viewed by other approved and logged in members. That way you get to read other interesting profiles as well.

Registrations are reviewed individually to achieve the environment described above.  We are not keen on setting any records for number of members - the focus will always be on a quality environment.  As the saying goes, "what goes around comes around" - so starting with the spirit of sharing & enthusiasm is the way to go!

The Goal: A pleasant, secure, spam-free community

The decision to create the Community Section / Features (i.e. web-based interaction/discussion functionality) was shaped largely by the total lack of privacy protection in e-mail based mailing lists - not to mention the potential of e-mail viruses, spam and harassment. These concerns also apply to online sites without any screening (where the focus is on maximizing numbers).

At Active-Days.org, you can rest assured that even registered members cannot view your e-mail or last name, unless you choose to communicate it to them directly. Those who are not registered cannot view any info. - thus effectively excluding spammers as well as archiving robots from search engines. Think about it - and you will see the benefits of a web-based, secure, spam-free community of real people!

Active-Days.org respects your right to privacy and is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust.  We are actively and strongly opposed to spam, intrusive advertising (which is surprisingly legal though in our opinion much worse than aggressive panhandling which is illegal in many places!) and unethical business practices. As highlighted in our Privacy Policy, we do not sell, rent, share or give away any personally identifiable information you provide us through our website or other communication channels.

What about anonymous registrations?

In situations/websites where there are discussions on politics, social justice, civil rights etc., one can see the reasonable benefits of anonymity.  [And, of course, if you are a "celebrity"!]   In other cases, such as this site, anonymity often leads to communications that are not authentic, relevant and at times, less than courteous.  You have probably witnessed some form of that, somewhere on the web!

Plus when you do attend an event (which we assume is your intention for visiting this site), your fake identity will then come in the way of your real identity. So as the age-old maxim goes, in the end it is always better & easier to just be yourself and interact with others naturally - of course, exercising the same good sense & discretion as you would in real life.  In summary, it's all about - "What you get out of any endeavor is what you personally put in it" - even if it takes a while!

In view of the above, if you wish to get access to the Member Directory and be able to post messages and connect with other members, please use your real name and info!   And please put in some effort to introduce/ describe yourself with some specifics (rather than "I like to hike around the Bay Area" ! ) as that shows you are sincerely interested in connecting with other nature / outdoors enthusiasts - again the ONLY reason you should be interested in signing up in the first place!!

About demographic information/ birthdate, as long as you are definitely above 18 (to comply with government regulations about online personal information), you can enter a close approximation (+ or - 1 or 2!) as that helps us understand the overall profile of site visitors and helps us make decisions on site content/ design etc. As stated in our Privacy Policy, this information is not shared or given out.

Sales people & Spammers, we understand your need to make a living.  You will save some time knowing that you will NOT find ANY contact info. here even after registering. And all sales, business promotion, spam type posts are deleted - since that is not the focus of this site. As stated in our privacy policy & terms, we take utmost care to ensure the privacy & security of all member information; and to maintain an atmosphere that is valued by our visitors/members.
